The number one FAQ we get is “What shampoo should I use?” We have a ton of options, and while that’s great, it also can get pretty confusing. This shampoo guide can help you find the right shampoo for you and your dog or cat.
BREAKING IT DOWN
There are different ways to break down our shampoos into categories, but the simplest way to make sure that you get the right shampoo for your needs, is to break it down by what the shampoo DOES.
CLEAN START
Clean Start is a clarifying shampoo. It removes dirt, dander, debris and oils from the coat without stripping the coat of it’s natural oils. This shampoo is perfect for owners who bathe their dog infrequently, or for a show bath. It works great on all coat types.
DAY TO DAY
Day to Day is a gentle, soothing and moisturizing shampoo made with colloidal oatmeal that is designed for – you guessed it – day to day use. (See what we did there ;)) This shampoo works on all coat types and hair textures, and is excellent for sensitive and allergy prone skin. Day to Day is a great option to lightly moisturize skin and coat without changing the coat texture.
FAIR ADVANTAGE
Pro-Line Fair Advantage is a premium body building, moisturizing 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner. This smooth formula, adds body and volume while gently moisturizing the skin and coat. This is perfect for breeds that need volume but allows for a soft texture. This is my #1 recommendation for cats!
HAPPY EYES
Happy Eyes 2-in-1 Tearless Shampoo is a gentle, soap-free moisturizing formula that doesn’t burn or hurt the eyes! We recommend that this shampoo be used on all puppies and kittens until 4 months of age! It will not harm the soft sensitive skin and coat that puppies and kittens have, and it works excellent as a facial shampoo for older dogs! This shampoo is a great choice for any age canine or feline that has extremely sensitive or delicate skin.
ICE ON ICE
The newest addition to our shampoo line, Ice on Ice Detangling Shampoo, has been an instant hit and a family favorite! Made with Argan Oil, this shampoo gently loosens knots and tangles and helps prevent them from forming! Argan Oil not only helps remove and prevent tangles, it also adds shine, and even helps strengthen hair. This is a must-have shampoo for drop breeds and breeds prone to tangling! It can be used on all coat types without changing the natural texture of the coat. (*Make sure to follow this with Ice on Ice Detangling Conditioner for the best results!)
PEACE & KINDNESS
Peace & Kindness Colloidal Silver Shampoo is sulfate-free and hypoallergenic. It is an excellent alternative to steroids and treats a large variety of skin issues including: rashes, hot spots, itchy skin, cuts, scrapes, bites, and dandruff. This shampoo helps speed healing and is great for allergy-prone animals!
SPECTRUM ONE
Spectrum One Shampoo is designed for coarse and rough coated breeds, but can be used on any coat type that needs added volume and texture! Spectrum One adds lift to double coats and preserves coarse and wire textures!
SPECTRUM FIVE
Spectrum Five Shampoo is designed for smooth coats to protect from damaging UV rays and preserve coat color, moistens skin and coat, and relieves dry, itchy, flaky skin.
SPECTRUM TEN
Spectrum Ten Shampoo is designed for drop and silky coats, it deeply moisturizes and maintains beautiful soft, silky, flowy coat, leaving it gorgeous and shiny! Works great for any coat that needs a little bit of weight to create a flowy, drop look!
TAME IT
Tame It Straightening Shampoo is designed to loosen curls and waves, and helps stop frizz in it’s tracks. Great for any breed that has frizzy, unmanageable coat!

Hey Miss Laurie,
Spectrum 10..good for Afghan Hounds? Does it help keep the coat de-tangled and conditioned? Then the age old question. How much ?

What about “white on white”?
LikeLike
White on White wasn’t included because it’s really a treatment. It’s not designed to clean like a traditional shampoo. It’s only called a shampoo because it’s a treatment within a shampoo. We will have a separate post about our color shampoos – how they work, how to use them, and how to mix them! 🙂

What would you recommend for an Alaskan Malamute, long hair?. I’ve been using Ice on Ice shampoo, follow by Thick and Thicker Volume Response Foaming Protein. And I finished with CoatLink Coat Dressing before blow drying. I like that regime, but I’m curious to know if there’s something else that you would recommend. Thanks!

That is an awesome regime! You could also try substituting the shampoo with either Fair Advantage or Spectrum One for more volume & body. 🙂

We have two standard poodles. Our black poodle has somewhat course hair, but our white poodle has very fine hair. Which shampoo(s) would you recommend?
LikeLike
I would use Spectrum One Shampoo, Substance Builder and Conditioner for both hair types. It will keep the texture of the coarse coat, and add volume to the fine coat. If you want to soften the coarse coat a bit and not compromise volume, substitute Fair Advantage Shampoo and use the rest as usual.

I have three shih tzu’s and have been using Spectrum 10 shampoo and Hydro Pac. I love how soft they feel afterwards but I still have one girl that is very prone to matting almost overnight. I brush them out using precious drop. Can you suggest something to help keep the matting down? Am I using the right shampoo and conditioner for her coat?
LikeLike
You might want to try our Ice on Ice Shampoo & Conditioner for that type coat! It helps not only to detangle and dematt, but also prevents matting! I would continue to use the Precious Drop though.

What products would you recommend for a Persian cat? He is blue and white.

Does he have a silky coat or a soft cottony coat?
LikeLike
More of a silky coat but he his hair can get underneath on his tummy between his back legs that matt fairly quickly. At the moment I am using a degreaser then either white on white or ice on ice, followed by thick and thicker and after you bathe. I see white on white isn’t an actual shampoo so the times I use it should I use the ice on ice or something else as well?

I would use Ice on Ice Shampoo or Spectrum Ten.
