Conditioner Guide

There’s nothing more important to proper coat care, than conditioner. Conditioner seals the cuticle, preventing damage and matting. Just like with shampoo, it can get pretty confusing to know which conditioner is best for your dog or cat’s coat type. This handy guide will break down the advantages of each of our conditioners, helping you to choose the correct conditioner for your dog or cat’s needs.

*Note: If you’re reading this thinking, “I don’t need conditioner?” or “Why is conditioner so important?” Check out this post.

After U Bathe is a final rinse solution – meaning it doesn’t add moisture like a traditional conditioner does. It simply closes the cuticle, protecting the coat from damage, and preserving the coat’s natural (or added) texture. Because of this, After U Bathe also cuts drying time in half, because it helps to remove excess water from the coat quicker.

Day to Day Conditioner, like it’s partner shampoo, is a gentle, soothing and moisturizing conditioner made with colloidal oatmeal that is designed for – you guessed it – day to day use. (See what we did there ;)) This formula works on all coat types and hair textures, and is excellent for sensitive and allergy prone skin. Day to Day is a great option to lightly moisturize skin and coat without changing the coat texture.

The newest addition to our conditioner line, Ice on Ice Conditioner is infused with Argan Oil, and designed to combat tangles and matts, leaving the coat smooth and show ring ready. Argan Oil not only helps remove and prevent tangles, it also adds shine, and even helps strengthen hair. This is a must-have set for drop breeds and breeds prone to tangling! It can be used on all coat types without changing the natural texture of the coat.

Pro-Line Pro Gro is a premium coat and skin conditioner that has been in the industry for over 50 years! Specially blended with nourishing ingredients such as coconut oil, essential oils and premium conditioners, Pro Gro deeply quenches even the driest coat and skin, adding essential moisture necessary for gorgeous coat growth. This formula works for all coat types, and can be diluted 8:1 to be used as a leave-in conditioner!

Designed for coarse and rough coats, Spectrum One is essential for all double coated, coarse, or wire haired breeds. Spectrum One Conditioner pairs perfectly with it’s shampoo which adds volume and texture, by sealing the cuticle without weighing it down, providing protection from damage. Spectrum One Conditioner preserves texture, and will not soften the coat.

Designed for the needs of smooth coats, Spectrum Five moisturizes the skin and coat, relieves dry, itchy skin and protects from color fading (from the sun). Smooth coats especially need to be conditioned with each bath, as most smooth coated breeds have dry, sensitive, flaky skin, and Spectrum Five is designed to soothe and heal a variety of skin issues.

Spectrum Ten is a ultra-smoothing, creamy nourishing formula designed for the needs of drop, silky coats. Spectrum Ten moisturizes deep within the coat removing frizz and static, leaving the coat brilliantly shiny and laying flat.

Lastly, Tame It Straightening Conditioner is designed to loosen curls and waves, stop frizz in it’s tracks, and leave the coat silky smooth. Great for any breeds with unmanageable coat!

I have an older (12) Havanese and have noticed his coat seems dryer than it used to. Is this due to aging and what conditioner would you recommend?

It could be due to aging, but there are a lot of other factors that could contribute as well, such as climate, his food, etc. I would use Spectrum Ten Hypropac in the bath, and leave on for at least 5 minutes (when needed). You could also use Coat Link Coat Dressing in between baths to keep his coat and skin moisturized.
